A provider‑sponsored health insurance company serving more than 1.2 million members invited OmniArcs to migrate their Netezza system from their data center to the cloud. Our experience at Full 360 laid the foundation. We selected Amazon Redshift at the time and migrated four databases.
The company was looking to avoid the cost of renewing its expensive on-premise Netezza enterprise license and migrate their portfolio of databases to Amazon Redshift. They supported dozens of users across multiple departments and needed a seamless transition under time constraints. With limited technical expertise in the cloud they needed to support a hybrid environment leveraging legacy technology for their primary mission critical applications. This patient data is protected under HIPAA and the engagement needed to meet all security requirements.
We proposed a lift‑and‑shift database migration plus targeted tuning (Upshift). This kept front‑ends and processes familiar while right‑sizing the new warehouse to perform under real‑world conditions. We added AWS architecture benefits including monitoring, container orchestration, notifications, and reliability patterns. Our SQL workflow modernization approach (heritage from SneaQL) managed complex business rules in a hybrid environment.
We designed and built a hybrid architecture bridging on‑prem tech with containerized fleets in a new VPC. Dozens of tables in multiple schemas and four databases were migrated in bulk. Custom data cleansing agents running on‑prem pushed optimized JSON to S3. Final incremental sync ensured no loss of production support.
The client retired Netezza and moved from a single on‑premises appliance supporting Prod, QA, and Dev to an AWS Redshift cluster isolating these loads. Previously, large QA jobs affected production performance; this is no longer the case. They now have a high‑availability solution. We also built a structured data lake on S3, making it easier to expand capabilities.
The customer was satisfied with the results and planned to share elements of this solution with other healthcare providers and insurers.
